Toyota crank pulley tool

Find More Posts by shadow There are threads inside the crankshaft which the crank bolt threads into to hold the harmonic balancer on the crank. Use a cheap balancer pulley removal tool such as from HF or the like. Some stores even rent them. So once the bolt is out the balancer will slide off the crank without a puller?? It may or may not. Depends if it's rusted or not. Mine would not come off at first but after I sprayed it with some penetrating oil and let it sit, then a couple whacks with a small hammer and it slide right off.

I used a chain wrench to kept the harmonic balancer still while threading the bolt on and off. But once the bolt is off it should slide right off. Personally on mine I had one Hell of a time trying to get it off.

I have a California rust free vehicle but still it took a huge pry bar and a few taps with a bfh. Attach two bolts that thread on to the pulley to the ends of a chain about 8 inches.

Next attach the two bolts to the crank pulley. You can now pull the chain with a leaver. If you have your radiator removed, You can use about 2 feet of cable for this purpose and using a heavy hammer to strike the chain, you can pull the pulley out.

Pretty much the same way you take out rear drum cover with 2 bolts. Beluga , Feb 14, TallTacoma , Jun 27, Demello sliders and bedbar. Custom rear bumper. Custom skid plates.

I've done my water pump and timing belt twice now, both times i removed the crank pulley bolt with a pneumatic impact gun. It came right off both times. The Raisin , Jun 27, Show Ignored Content. DO NOT drain the oil before attempting this. The oil must be at normal levels when you do this or you could cause a lot of internal damage as parts will rub together that were never intended to do that. If you are trying to replace the timing belt, there are many videos on YouTube on how to do this.

Just be sure you pick one by someone competent. Be sure to remove the spark plug wires from the plugs, and remove the plugs so the engine won't start, and you don't make the starter motor fight engine compression. Improve this answer. I think the OP is wanting to slide the pulley off the crankshaft, not remove the pulley bolt. Yes, the pulley must come off on the Gen 4 '97 to Camry with the 5S-FE engine to change the belt.

I believe it's true for your Gen 3 as well. BTW, since you're in there and it's a pain to get in there, I would def recommend changing out the water pump while your there. It's not that expensive, and it avoids having to go through all that prep work again later if it fails.

And it is a relatively common failure. That's the whole reason I'm there in the first place, the water pump. It's a pain that I have to unbolt the alternator, release tension pulley and crankshaft, then remove alternator belt, timing belt, align engine with top dead center etc I joined this site because before this, I had never been under the hood of a car before lol it's a little overwhelming — Nathaniel Davidson.
